What is Elderberry?
The traditional plant with a long history of medicinal properties.
Known as a versatile organic superflower, Sambucus nigra is a species of flowering plants native to most of Europe and North America. Known as everything from elderberry to black elder to European elder, the ivory white flowers have been used in infusions, cordials and wine for centuries. The berries are edible after cooking and can be used to make jams, wine and brandy.
Extracts from the fruit have been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in order to treat:
● Coughs
● Upper respiratory cold infections
● Fevers
● Allergies
● Gastrointestinal issues
It is important to note that while the cooked berries include all sorts of medicinal qualities, ingesting raw berries can cause vomiting, diarrhoea or allergic reactions
